On November 21, 2025, at the award ceremony of the Central European Notarial Colloquium, the Hungarian Chamber of Civil Law Notaries bestowed its highest distinction that may be awarded by the notarial profession to a non-notary – the Pro Notariis Hungariae Award – upon Professor István Varga, Head of the Department of Civil Procedural Law.

Pro Notariis Hungariae is granted by the Chamber to a person “who is not a member of the notarial profession, but whose work and expertise promote and support the functioning of the Hungarian notariat, and who has, over a long period, performed professional work of outstanding quality, carried out significant scholarly activity, and whose career has rendered them worthy of receiving the award.”

In his laudation, the President of the Chamber, Dr Ádám Tóth, highlighted the extensive international recognition of István Varga’s work as an attorney and arbitrator, his scholarly and teaching activities at leading foreign universities, as well as his longstanding scientific support of the notarial profession in his capacity as member of the editorial board of the Közjegyzők Közlönye (Notaries’ Law Journal).
